Why Living With Integrity Is Everything

“Goodness is about character – integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people.” – Dennis Prager

Integrity is a very personal term and is defined as “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.” It is something that holds deep meaning and importance in both my husband and I’s life and something I hope to pass on to our children. Integrity isn’t something we put a lot of thought into until someone questions it and then we find a fire that ignites inside of us that first makes us re-evaluate our principles and reinforce just how valuable they are.

To start living with integrity you first need to have a clear vision of the following:

☼ Your values – What are your core beliefs and what do you stand for? I recommend writing a list of your core values and then sort them from the most important to the least. When you have a clear belief system it makes decision-making a lot easier. ☼ Your purpose – What is your “why?” When you have a purpose in life you are more motivated to not only make decisions but to act on the things you say. ☼ Your goals – I wrote a post about goal setting which can help you put your purpose in to action while keeping your values close to your heart.

So why live with integrity?

Your relationships will flourish because they will be made from a foundation of trust and respect. Decision making is made easier as you have the confidence to choose the path that fits in with your values so at the end of the day you’ll be able to look in the mirror with a clear conscious. Opportunities will be vast because people will always want to help someone who sticks to their word and follows through with the things they say they will do. I can tell you from personal experience that when you live with integrity you shine positive vibes around everyone you meet and can greater influence others to live an honest and moral life too. Not everyone will think or act the same way as you and it’s quite common for people who feel insecure or threatened to lash out and try to make you second guess yourself or challenge your integrity. The best advise I can give is to keep living your life with the values and principles you believe in, do not fall into the trap of going down a path that does not align with those and I can promise you that in the long run, it’s integrity that always wins.
