7 Essential Daily Habits To Improve Your Mental Well-being

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Growing up I learnt a lot about the “food pyramid” and the different ways we can take care of our physical body including healthy eating and exercising. Something I never learnt about was mental well being or holistic health and I feel like that gap of education was so big that it held me back from living as my best self. On a positive note I have been fortunate enough to educate myself in these areas and now I have a passion to help spread my learning’s with others.

In 2011 the US government replaced the old “food pyramid” (that I spent so many years learning) with a much more visually pleasing food plate which again was to help people make healthy food choices. During this time Dr. Dan Siegel along with Dr. David Rock, created The Healthy Mind Platter. This was prompted from their belief that the implications of poor mind health may be even more detrimental then poor diet and physical inactivity. Siegal and Rocks research showed that our brains can function more optimally by performing seven daily mental activities (“ingredients”) as part of a balanced mental health diet.

I definitely recommend that you click on the link and read the full description of the “Healthy Mind Platter” as it’s very insightful.

In my true simplistic style I have created a visual of the The Healthy Mind Platter “recipe” and added some simple tips next to each each “ingredient.”

Remember that we are all different so the quantity of each “ingredient” you need may differ to someone else, just like the food and drink we consume. What is important is that you do all 7 of the activities each day to give yourself the best chance of optimum mental health .When you have a strong foundation of mental and physical well-being in place, every other skill, behaviour or mindset becomes easier to achieve.

How are you meeting the nutrition for thinking?

Thanks for reading and make sure you share your smile with the world today ☮
