5 simple lessons we can learn from trees

Be like a tree. Stay grounded. Connect with your roots. Turn over a new leaf. Bend before you break. Enjoy your unique beauty. Keep growing. – Joanne Raptis

I’m not embarrassed to admit that I’m a little obsessed with trees. I’m not a tree hugging hippy but I do appreciate their beauty and of course the fact that they keep us alive. Ever since I was a little girl I have always drawn little trees everywhere and now as an adult I have a tree tattoo. Hopefully at this point you don’t think I’m too crazy and continue to read lol! What prompted this post is my new year resolution to become more grounded so I can flourish into the person I am meant to be.

When I first set out to write this post I actually came up with a list of 23 things we can learn from tree’s but decided to pick my favourite things and share them with you instead. I hope you enjoy!

A strong foundation is everything – Trees have an incredible root system that keeps them grounded and prepares them for growth. Our foundation is made up from our morals and values and is just as important to strengthen as roots on a tree are. The stronger our foundation the better prepared we are to learn positive habits that will nourish growth happiness and resilience. The deeper your roots the greater the challenge you can withstand. ☼ Go with the flow – Tree’s don’t just appear fully grown overnight, they too started as a humble little seed and slowly grows as nature prescribes. We often wish our way through life and expect change to happen overnight. The thing is, if you rush the process, you’ll normally end up failing so instead we need trust that everything will happen when it is supposed to and enjoy the journey of getting there. Imagine putting a huge tree trunk on tiny roots, it’ll end up breaking and we are very much the same. ☼ Acceptance – The only constant in life is change and change is inevitable. Through wind rain and shine trees are committed to change. They sway with the wind and shed whatever no longer serves them as the seasons change. Imagine the boundaries we could break and strength we could gain by embracing change and working with it rather than against it. ☼ Selflessness – A tree allows every being to live with itself and gives without expectation. Trees instinctively know that there are advantages to working together which is why a forest that is constantly tested by adversity will grow and endure (they are quite the treemunity). Trees demonstrate that life isn’t a competition and we can be the best of ourselves by working together and sharing our wisdom with others. ☼ We are perfectly imperfect – You may have noticed that there are never two trees that look the same. Every tree grows, and bends of its own accord and the veins of a leaf or ridges of the bark are as unique as fingerprints to us. No matter the season trees are beautiful and more importantly that beauty does not decrease with age. Stand proud like a tree and embrace what makes you “you.” Live a life that makes you happy and don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd. I’ve always preferred a real Christmas tree to a fake one anyone.

Thanks for reading and make sure you share your smile with the world today ☮
